As you know there have been many changes in the pattern of SSC CGL tier 1 exam 2016, While course for other subjects remained almost the same,SSC CGL tier 1 English syllabus had become a new puzzle for students as well as coaching institutes. As per SSC notification published on 1st of July, English had only English comprehension  in it’s syllabus.

Because of this confusion an RTI filed by a dedicated SSC teacher. Recently, SSC had replied to an RTI Application, regarding the SSC CGL tier 1 English syllabus. The best part in that reply is that, SSC had even given the Topic wise distribution of marks for English syllabus.

English comprehension means to SSC is Candidates’ ability to understand correct English. Purpose of  new SSC CGL English pattern is to test understanding and writing ability of candidate. Questions will be based on sentence improvement, error correction, cloze test, synonyms, antonyms, miss-spelt words, idioms & phrases, one word substitution. As it is clear from the image number of questions from asked from each topic in SSC CGL tier 1 English is following-

Sentence Improvement- 3 questions

Error correction- 3 questions

Cloze test – 3 questions

One word Substitution – 3 questions

Idioms/ Phrases – 3 questions

English Comprehension – 5 questions

Antonyms/Synonyms/Spelling- 5 questions
